MISHEARD LYRICS 80S STYLE #5

1980S SONGS YOU'VE SUNG WRONG FOR YEARS

The Clash had that cool song ROCK THE CASHBAR - I loved to crank that song to 11 and really belt out the lyrics, which I thought were 'rock the quazbah' and maybe a "quazbah" was french for electric guitar? Turns out I had the words wrong #embarrassedasallgetout

Rock the Cashbar, Rock the Cashbar! Tip well!

I took the suggestion to SHOUT from Tears for Fears, and I'd shout all their songs when I'd sing them...I loved all their hits: Shout, Everybody wants to ruin the world, Head over Heals...but, I really loved that slow, emotional, song - Sewing Machines Of Love.

Tears for Fears was my favourite

I've mentioned this song before because there are so many misinterpretations of the lyrics - TOTO's Africa. There is one part of the song that I'm glad I've confirmed - "there's nothing that a hundred men on mars could ever do". Phew, that makes sense now. Men on Mars couldn't do anything to Africa from far away. I always thought it was There's nothing that a hundred men or moors could ever do. I thought it was a big ol racist slur, but, it turns out I was wrong again! It's actually about men on mars...I feel much better now.
Toto is out of this world
One song that still doesn't sit well with me is Eddie Money's Two Chickens To Paralyze! That is just cruel. For me, I'm going to stick with the words I always thought were correct - Two tickets to para-nice (like partially nice). I'm thinking like a three star resort in Mexico. It's fine, but, you wouldn't recommend it to your friends.

I like two tickets to para-nice

80s MEMES | MUSIC, MULLETS AND MCDONALDS

1980s MEMES TO GO WITH THAT PARTY IN THE BACK

The popular haircut of the 80s was the infamous Mullet. Also known as the 'business in the front party in the back', 'the Canadian passport', 'Beaver Tail', etc. I love that there are still a few guys sporting the look. A throwback to better days? You be the judge.

Sweet ride - i'm talking hair and a ride for the lice!
There may be communities of people - that own IROCs and such - that support mullet wearing, I just don't know any of them personally.

I tried sportin' a mullet in 89, but, couldn't commit
I did try growing a mullet in the summer of '89. But, I was a bit too late on the fashion train, and I have a problem committing to things like 'long' hair. So, I never actually had a mully. One of my greatest regrets in life.

A mullet in it's natural environment - picking up lotto and smokes at the convenience store

I don't frequent convenience stores or the Wal-Mar that often, but, I may start just to see the millenium mullets in their natural habitat.

I'd be TOO SHY if I had this hair too!

I do get my fill of mullets when I watch 80s music videos. I do get a little overwhelmed, hair wise, by some 80s bands. But, I have discovered a coping strategy that works well. I just listen to the radio and then I don't have to be bombarded with the gigantic hairstyles. Remember, you can always take a visual assault break and listen to www.radionomy.com/80sthrowbackparty !

80s technology support group

Memories of the time we were figuring out life. Learning how to use technology - big clunky computers, VCRs that needed the tracking adjusted, Cassettes that snapped and needed taping, and 'negatives' that needed processing to be turned into photos (no selfies here boyz).

I learned a lot about life, usually over a styrofoam container filled to the brim with an all beef patty, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun...and yes, that's the way I ate it b/c being picky was not an option.

I'm going to turn to dirt sooner than this container will
But, it was the music of the 80s that lives on...well, the styrofoam is still floating around in the pacific ocean garbage dump, but, that is not the point.

ozone killer = 80s rock band

Abuse of 80s music with new technology

Grumpy cat please be nice to cutting crew!

True - you need at least five choices

And, for all you true 80s fans, below is a test. What is wrong with this picture? Leave a comment.

MISHEARD LYRICS 80S STYLE #4

TOP SINGING THE WRONG LYRICS

As a giant Madonna fan I'm very embarrassed to say I had the words for Poppadom Preach wrong for years...I thought it was Poppacorn Peach (popcorn that tasted like peaches, yum).

My Pappa don't preach about pop corn that tastes like peaches
Gloria Estefan has some pretty fun songs that make you wanna move your bod. I also thought they were great to do rhythmic gymnastics to. Especially that song Ribbon Is Gonna Get Ya, b/c in my rhythmic gymnastics class we use a ribbon when we move. The lyrics and movements mesh so well together!
Rhythmic Gymnastics staple song - RIBBON IS GONNA GET YOU!

ZZ Top always dressed in those classy suits...yet, they had big beards! I'm not sure how to interpret the lyrics of their song Shark Dressed Man - perhaps it has to do with their beards. Underneath those swell suits they were crazy party animals (like sharks) and ate a lot of fish! That is the only explanation I can think of.

ZZ TOP - Shark dressed man

MORE VAN HALEN MEMES | 1980s ROCKED

80s VANHALEN MEMEs

Van Halen in the early 80s. What a great sentence. It conjures up images of giant rock concerts, giant rock egos, a superstar guitar player, an over the top frontman, a bass player (sorry Anthony).

Eddie Van Halen
Did you know that when they were young Eddie was the drummer in the family and Alex played guitar!

Eddie played drums!

Now he plays guitar

Sometimes he plays too hard

He plays with passion

Apparently the band's first name was Genesis ... but, when they realized that name was taken (and that band became pretty famous) they chose Mammoth! That didn't last long before they switched to Van Halen (boy was David Lee Roth mad about that. He wanted the band to be named the Roths).

Apparently, Roth's Father was a prominent eye doctor who was wealthy enough to be featured on that show Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous...no joke.

Poor Roth had it bad...or didn't have it bad...

It's because of that teacher!

80s PHIL COLLINS

PHIL COLLINS MUSIC

That wonderful song by Phil - Two Hearts - reached that number ONE spot on the charts in 1988/89.
There were two videos made for this song. The original is Phil and his bandmates singing the song.
The second video featured WWF wrestler the Ultimate Warrior...does anyone else find that strange?

Phil's wresting outfit is interesting
There is actually a third video, not 'official', but, still pretty good. Made by a fan.

I did make another interesting connection, speaking of two hearts...Phil Collins & Star Trek Captain Jean Luc Picard! Phil seems to be involved in so many pieces of the entertainment field.

Phil and Picard really do look like alike don't they?

When asked who felt it coming in the air tonight?
In The Air Tonight was another hit song by Phil that features the famous 'drum break' which is just perfect to air drum to, especially while in the car sitting at at stop light.

I know I play the air drums everytime.

I give the thumbs up AFTER I'm done my air drumming of course

I feel storms coming in the air sometimes too - my elbow joint hurts
This song was his first hit after leaving that band he was in before - the first band - Genesis.

Genesis 1:2 Then God made Phil Collins & Jean Luc Picard
I always wondered what a Sussudio was. I love that song soo-soo-sooddiah, but, still not sure what it means. If I could sit down with Phil for an hour that would be one of the first questions I'd ask.

Phil knows...

Phil jokes are punny

Anyway, I like Phil and really don't trust anyone that doesn't. What do you think? Go ahead tell my new friends...

THE 80s IS CALLING...

80s CELLULAR PHONES MAKE A GREAT JOKE

If you wanted some hi-tech gadgets the place to hit up was Radioshack. I haven't been to one of those in years...I wonder why?

80s called...

I'm not sure how cool it was to have a cellular phone, but, add a nice mullet, some cool 'shades', a gold watch...and you're cookin' with gas!

80s cool

I always picture slimey stock brokers as the only people in the 80s who had cell phones.

My idea of an 80s stock broker
Nowadays, cellular phones are for everyone!

80s phones for 80 year olds
And, the price of technology has really gone down. Imagine the payment plan back in '85 if you bought the big phone with the extra battery pack...I wonder how much unlimited data cost?

42 year payment plan of only $18.99 a month
Kids ask today why phones were so big? Obviously it was because they needed a giant case for protection when the Russian's dropped nuclear bombs on the west...obviously!

80s phone had a case that would withstand a nuclear explosion
And sadly, some of the giant tech from the 80s is still in use today - like the fax machine.

Hulk could lift the fax machine, but, not many others!

I do remember using a car phone. It was probably in the really late 80s...maybe even December of 1989...we had a family friend, a 'rich' lady who helped shuffle kids from the church group around in her big Lincoln...and she had a car phone. She would let us use it to call our parents and tell them we were on our way home.

Nothing says 80s like a car phone being used by Miami Vice
I do remember my parents being very hip by doing 'telephone banking'...it took like an hour and 3,487 pushes of buttons on the phone to transfer money around in their bank account, but, hey you could do it from home! Imagine the future if that was possible way back then!

I believe Tom Selleck was a big fan of telephone banking
